The Town of Wallkill is taking steps to reduce catalytic converter thefts following an incident around Kensington Way.

The Wallkill Police Department has shared the following tips to help residents safeguard their vehicles:

  • Etch your license plate number onto your car's catalytic converter. Many police departments and some muffler shops offer this service for free.

  • Park in safe areas,

    such as

    well-lit places, garages

    or

    lots equipped with surveillance cameras.

  • Install cameras and shields. A dash camera can record activity near your car, and some car shops provide anti-theft shields to increase the difficulty of removing a catalytic converter.

Residents can report catalytic converter thefts by calling 845-692-6757 or by filing a report in person at 99 Tower Drive in Middletown.
