Employees at the Wal-Mart on Main Street in White Plains were cheering Monday, and it wasn't because of storewide sales.
Wal-Mart donated $75,000 to the Food Bank For Westchester.
"This is huge," said Charles Day, vice president of the Food Bank For Westchester. "This is the first time we've gotten a check from Wal-Mart. For every dollar the Food Bank for Westchester receives, because of our purchasing power it means $4 worth of food. So, a check like this for $75,000 means we can buy $300,000 worth of food."
With an estimated 200,000 people in Westchester County at risk of hunger, Day says donations of any size are always welcome.
Food bank officials say part of the money Wal-Mart donated will also be used for its mobile food pantry program and to provide food to school children in need on the weekends.
