Crowds turned out Wednesday to remember a star Harrison High School student who died unexpectedly in his sleep.
Tests reveal that 16-year-old Andrew Gurgitano suffered a stroke on Saturday. The junior was an exceptional student and athlete who was a member of the varsity baseball team.
Wake services were held Wednesday at the Cox and Graziano Funeral Home in Mamaroneck.
Police say Gurgitano likely had an unknown medical condition.
The West Harrison Junior Firefighters Organization told News 12 that they all knew Andrew and felt compelled to hold a boot donation in his honor. As of 9 p.m. Tuesday, a crowdfunding campaign has raised nearly $60,000 for the family to help cover funeral expenses.
A funeral is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony of Padua in West Harrison and burial at St. Mary's cemetery in Port Chester.
