Volunteers worked Saturday to install a new playground at Yonkers War Memorial Park.
More than 125 volunteers were expected to help with the installation. The project was organized by Alexandra's Playground, a New York-based nonprofit established in 2009 by two Irvington parents to commemorate the life of their daughter, Alexandra Vitale.
They tell News 12 they've installed 27 playgrounds all over the world, and this is the first playground they’ve built in Yonkers.
Organizers say the park that used to be there was in desperate need of repair.
The new playground has equipment for children ages 2 to 12 and will be handicap accessible.
