Volunteers gathered one day after a massive fire to help clean up debris at a Bed-Stuy synagogue.
B'nai Adath Kol Beth Yisrael on Patchen Avenue was destroyed after police say a 71-year-old man repairing the roof set the fire while using his blowtorch.
An engineer contracted by the synagogue is working on a plan to shore up the walls and remove the collapsed roof. Volunteers worked to construct a fence around the synagogue as part of a mandate by the Department of Buildings.
Rabbi Baruch Yehudah says he is hopeful the synagogue will be back up and running by Passover. He says that's his greatest hope.
Meantime, the Torah scrolls that were saved from the fire are currently in the possession of a nearby congregation.
