A local charity organization is calling on everyone to help fight food insecurity for its 10th annual "9/11 Serve and Remember" event.
This year’s communitywide initiative focuses on donating food to those in need.
News 12 is told Westchester County has experienced a 40% spike in food insecurity since the pandemic began.
"We are out in the community traveling to nonprofits about how volunteers can help them accomplish their mission,” says Jeanette Gisbert, executive director of Volunteer NY. “And through those conversations was the issue of food insecurity and it started to bubble up."
Volunteer opportunities are available through Sept. 11. To sign up, visit their
