The Village of Mamaroneck just unveiled its first five-year capital plan, with $37 million in flood mitigation projects.
Westchester County has committed more than $20 million.
The areas the projects focus on include the Anita Lane Bridge and the Halstead Avenue Bridge.
People who live on Anita Lane say the Mamaroneck River sometimes overflows onto the street and into their homes, and residents there have had to deal with the flooding multiple times.
Some say they're relieved and hopeful this will help but it's long overdue.
"It was awful. The sewage that came up, 18 inches, in my lower level, destroyed so much," says resident Maureen Kavanagh. "I'm feeling optimistic but I'll believe it when I see it."
"If they do something that will make the water run out when the tide is coming in, that will help," says resident Sue Eilers. Planning, engineering and design work is expected to start early next year.
