A candlelight vigil was held Friday night for a 20-month-old boy that was fatally struck by a pickup truck Friday morning in a Spring Valley parking lot.
The accident happened in the parking lot at the Lottie Gardens apartment complex in Rose Avenue. Police say a silver pickup truck had just picked up two passengers before the 20-month-old Dominic Mero was struck by the front of the vehicle.
Neighbors say Mero and his siblings were playing outside, and officials believe Mero ran into the street. Neighbors say one of Mero's siblings was watching him at the time while his mother was at a nearby deli, though police won't confirm it.
Police say the driver, a 33-year-old man from Pomona, and his two passengers were very shaken up during questioning. The boy's mother was taken to the hospital because she was so upset over losing her son.
No charges have been filed as the investigation continues. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call police.
