Dozens of Verizon workers in Port Chester were among the tens of thousands striking up and down the East Coast Wednesday after nearly 10 months of failed contract negotiations.
The Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers have been in contract talks with Verizon since June. Leaders say the sides have reached an impasse
Hundreds gathered Wednesday morning at the Verizon building on Main Street in White Plains to kick off the strike.
Verizon officials say the company has proposed wage increases, continued retirement benefits and health care benefits, but union members say Verizon is looking to take away retirement benefits for people already on a set income.
