Vaccine program to be held in NYC schools
(AP) - The New York City health department is holding aweeklong vaccination program in six schools, including P.S. 46 Edgar Allan Poe School in the Bronx.
The program is in preparation for this fall's vaccination effortagainst H1N1, the swine flu. Next week from Monday to Friday,trained nurses will administer the seasonal influenza vaccine tothe approximately 700 students in schools in the five boroughs.
The program aims to find efficient ways to immunize largenumbers of children in schools. Within the next few weeks, parentsof elementary school students will receive consent forms to sign ifthey want their children to receive the H1N1 vaccine at school. Theactual vaccination effort will start in October and continue forapproximately eight weeks.
