It was a memorable evening for nearly 1,000 West Point cadets Wednesday as they chose the next step in their military careers.
The U.S. Military Academy Class of 2020 selected their active duty assignments after graduation.
The way the ceremony works is the cadets are divided into Army branches and then they select their assignments in order of class rank.
Each post has a limited number of spots. The lower the cadet's rank, the greater the chance the post they are hoping for will be taken.
It's estimated that about 80% of cadets receive their first choice, while 95% receive an assignment out of their top three.
The military academy class will graduate in May and be off to the military bases they chose Wednesday evening.
