A day after a mother pleaded not guilty to leaving her 1-year-old son in a car at Woodbury Commons, the federal government announced a program to step up awareness of so-called "hot car deaths."
U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx launched a new campaign called "Where's Baby? Look before you lock."
The program highlights the dangers of leaving children in hot cars, and how to prevent it from happening.
Foxx says it doesn't take long for a disaster to strike. "Temperatures in the low 80s outside of the car can cause temperatures inside the car to reach deadly levels in under 10 minutes and cracking the windows does not help so never leave a kid in a car alone," says Foxx.
This year alone, 17 children have died while being left inside locked cars on hot days across the country.
