Urgency is growing to save historic murals in Mamaroneck High School from construction slated in April.
For more than eight decades, eight murals have stood the test of time along Mamaroneck High School cafeteria walls.
Dating back to 1942, six successful artists illustrated the work of renowned author James Fenimore Cooper.
These artists include Vietnam veterans and a Mamaroneck high school graduate.
As the school moves forward with construction plans beginning April 1, the murals will either be covered or destroyed.
That's why the Mamaroneck Historical Society is paving a way to preserve the paintings with a GoFundMe and help from alumni.
There's a $175,000 goal to fund preservation and restoration efforts before construction begins in April.
