An Ulster County probation officer is behind bars following inappropriate conduct in the county jail.

In August, an investigation was initiated after suspicions arose of a probation officer smuggling a cellphone into the jail for inmate Christopher Power's use.

The officer, Shawn Teuber, 25, surrendered to detectives on Sept. 18 and was charged with promoting prison contraband in the first degree and official misconduct, both serious offenses.

Power, facing two counts of promoting prison contraband in the first degree, remains in Ulster County Jail for later arraignment.
