An Ulster County couple pleaded guilty this week to their involvement in a fatal hit-and-run cover-up that killed a 21-year-old woman from Saugerties earlier this year.
Prosecutors say Lacy Maxwell, 43, of Malden, left the scene after fatally striking Starllie Swonyoung on Route 9W in Saugerties, while she walked with her friend, Jan. 10 at approximately 5:10 p.m.
Authorities say the next day, her husband, Ryan Maxwell, 43, helped her stage a car accident to cover-up the damage to her 2021 Subaru and file a false insurance claim.
Lacy Maxwell pleaded guilty on Tuesday to leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death and felony insurance fraud. Her husband pleaded guilty to insurance fraud, according to Ulster County prosecutors.
Both are scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 15.
Authorities say a community outpouring of leads was “instrumental and immensely assisted” law enforcement in the investigation.
