Concerns over Uber safety are hitting home in the Hudson Valley following the murder of a University of South Carolina student.
On Wednesday, family and friends said a final farewell to 21-year-old Samantha Josephson, of New Jersey. Police say Josephson was seen on surveillance video getting into a car she thought was her Uber ride.
Police have charged Nathaniel Rowland with kidnapping and murder in that case.
The murder resonates with Pace University students in Pleasantville. The students say they take safety precautions when using companies like Uber.
"We never go just one person," says student Adrienne Daur. "We always go in a group and most of the time Uber will tell you the car's license plate number so we always check that."
Eastchester police offered tips on Facebook. They say never give your name when getting into an Uber. Instead they say ask the driver who they are picking up.
Uber riders can also share their trip information with loved ones by going into the app's setting and clicking on managed contacts.
