Sumit Sharma, Trumbull's recently hired director of the town's Health Department and former deputy health director in Bridgeport, was arrested this week, accused of using his position to obtain $5,000 worth of VIP tickets and food for Day 2 of the Soundside Music Festival last year, a Bridgeport city spokesperson confirmed.
The spokesperson confirmed that Sharma is accused of falsely claiming a group of people with him at the festival were health inspectors. That same group was later seen drinking inside the VIP tent while wearing concert staff wristbands.
Sharma, 37, is charged with two counts of larceny by extortion and is expected to appear in court on May 2.
He is currently on administrative leave.
