For the third time in as many months, a tractor-trailer has hit an overpass on the Hutchinson River Parkway in Westchester.
Police say a tractor-trailer carrying mail hit the northbound King Street overpass in Rye Brook around 1 a.m. today. They say the truck didn't hit the overpass very hard, but the trailer did suffer damage. The driver tried to back up, but realized he couldn't make it and waited for help to arrive. Luckily none of the cargo spilled out onto the roadway.
Just before the overpass, a new flashing sign was recently installed stating "Overweight Vehicle When Flashing," but it is unclear if it was working this morning or if the truck driver just didn't see it in time. Also painted on the ground is a warning that states "Low Bridge."
An inspector was called to the scene to check the bridge.
No injuries have been reported.
