The 96th anniversary service at Trinity Baptist Church in Crown Heights was one for the ages and full of prayer, song and musical performances packed with passion and love.
Built back in 1926, Rev. Joan Bernard-Austin says it is the feeling of camaraderie and family that keeps the church strong, as well as the pews and computer screens full.
Her son has been a drummer at the church since he was a kid, and he says it's great to have the congregation back together.
"As we start our 96th anniversary year, we're having our first female pastor, so it means a lot," said Jacqueline Coleman, church clerk and anniversary committee chair.
Coleman has been coming to Trinity since she was two years old with her family and is thrilled at what the future holds.
Rev. Joan Bernard-Austin says she thinks the community needs Trinity now more than ever and is grateful to be a trailblazer.
History officially begins May 22 when she will be installed as the first female pastor of the church, in a joint celebration with the Brooklyn borough president.
