Emily, we were talking about the flood warnings for those areas. You're out in Monte as of right now. What are you saying? So we are here in Muncie and I have to say the rain is pummeling, the wind is strong. It is taking every ounce of strength. I have to stand here in this position and not move and it's just getting worse and worse as the night goes by. It's interesting. We started out here because the newsroom got an alert about some major flooding and when we got to the area, we did see some. But since we've seen, we've been here, we've been seeing cars speed down this hill. I'm going to have my photographer Zoom in. I don't know if you can even see the rain is so bad. But essentially, we've been seeing driver after driver Kareem down this hill speed right into the caution tape past the caution tape. At one point, we had hovering of Rocklands standing in the middle of the street. They have since left. We really don't know what the situation is, but we have to say we've seen a ton of unsafe driving tonight if it is raining this hard, you really, you need to go slower. So there is some heavy flooding here on Melnick and Robert Pitt. And it's honestly just getting worse throughout the night. Like I keep saying, very, very unsafe conditions and we've seen a lot of unsafe drivers. I keep saying if your job is not to go out and report in the weather about how cold and rainy the weather is, stay inside. So that is the latest from Muncie.

Thank you, Jonathan. Yes, exactly the same situation. The rain is coming down hard. We are here on route 59 in Anu and I'm going to have my photographer actually zoom into the Mavis discount where this is typically where we see a ton of flooding. The last time I covered a storm like this. The water was well over the wheels of all the cars there. Obviously, we haven't gotten to that level yet and traffic is really, it's moving quite nicely there. No delays along 59 or anything like that. Now, before we were here, we were at the Pearl River train station because the MT was recommending to people that they leave work early. So we wanted to check on the conditions there. See if people were running around trying to get home before the storm intensified. We stopped by the bar at the Metro North train and they said nothing is slowing them down. Certainly not. The weather and Poker Tuesday is still very much a go. It's winter time. That's what happens. I guess rain is better than snow bear River. A lot of Irish people. So it's rain, nothing changes. People are going out will go out. People that are not going out won't go out there. You have it. The people in Pearl River are very hardcore. So the best thing to do in a storm like this is to stay informed, stay informed about your public transit and the roads and the best way to do that, of course is by sticking with News 12 and the News 12.

And let's head to the other side of the Hudson River. Diane. Caruso is in Piermont with a look at the conditions there. Diane. Good evening. Well, it has been a cold and wet day here in Rockland County, including where I am in Piermont. We have some video to show you of water building up in those flood prone spots here in the village. There's even some barriers that are ready and up on the sides of those roads in case there is a potential flood that blocks it. So drive do not go into those waters. The village has lifted overnight parking restrictions to allow people to park their cars on higher ground. And the water resiliency committee here in Piermont has looked at data and believes the highest chance of flooding happening here could happen late tonight into tomorrow morning when high tide happens now with the potential for flooding. There's this electro sign behind me by Cane Park on Paradise Avenue, reminding passer bys of that potential flood risk and and reminding folks of the importance of turning around and do not drown and to avoid those flood waters do not try to go through it um with that, our news 12 team is out here in the conditions providing you that those updates, stay with us for more after the break.

And welcome back to News 12 as we continue our storm watch coverage. Joining us now is Robert Sinclair from AAA as we keep an eye on the roads tonight and Robert, let's get right through this. How dangerous can roads be with melting snow. And now we're going to add two, possibly three inches of rain overnight. We're talking about very hazardous conditions and drivers have to realize that posted speed limits are for ideal conditions and you're a lot more likely to skid and lose control on slippery roads like we're seeing uh tonight. And so really keep your speed down. That's very important. Hopefully, if you got good windshield wipers on the vehicle, that's very important. So you can see, especially in the case of a heavy downpour, probably the most important device is to avoid driving standing water and especially at night and especially in unfamiliar territory. The CDC says you are most likely to drown, not at the beach but in your vehicle when you drive into hazardous flooding conditions and that happens. If you're in an unfamiliar territory, it might look like over topped the bridge and it only takes about two of moving water to sweep even the largest vehicle, a big SUV or pickup truck away. So please keep that in mind if you're on the road and avoid those conditions. Rhode, how do you know when it's safe? How do you know when you should turn around if that water is going to come up past probably the midpoint of your wheel? Uh, it's very important that you turn around. You get into your engine and uh water is not compressible, so it'll get into the pistons and it'll just ruin the engine and leave you stranded. Also, modern vehicles these days are festooned with electronics. Um So getting that water in there and if you're in a shore location that seawater is coming up to your vehicle, that can be very bad, especially in electric vehicles. I know after hurricane Ian in 2022 saltwater flooded a lot of electric vehicles. It shorted out the batteries created explosions, electrochemical fires that are very extinguished. And then of course, you've lost your vehicle. So please keep these things in mind if you're parked or if you're on the road, you don't want flooding to get into your modern vehicle.
