News 12's Lisa LaRocca is in Thunderbolt 12 checking on roadways as fog and rain are making for treacherous driving around the Hudson Valley.
Luckily, today’s fog is not ad bad as Tuesday’s conditions which contributed to numerous accidents around the region.
New York State Police attributed a significant multivehicle collision on I-84 in Orange County to dense fog that enveloped the area just before 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
The collision involved numerous cars, tractor-trailers, and vehicles transporting parts of a home, leading to the complete shutdown of a four-mile stretch of the highway from exit four at Mountain Road to exit one near Port Jervis, close to the Pennsylvania state line.
The resulting traffic backlog extended miles into Pennsylvania and New Jersey, with the westbound lane reopening around 2 p.m., but the eastbound side remaining closed until 6:30 p.m. Several drivers sustained minor, nonlife-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals.
Authorities from the Orange County Office of Emergency Management had issued a safety alert, warning drivers of reduced visibility due to fog that morning. State police continue to investigate the incident, emphasizing caution due to the presence of foggy conditions once again.
