Thousands of people across Westchester lost power Monday on one of the hottest days of the year. Con Edison officials say at least 12,000 customers went off line at the peak of the outage, most of them in northwest Yonkers. There were also reports of smaller outages in North Castle, Rye, Port Chester, Rye Brook and Harrison. Some residents say they were not surprised by the outage and actually went outdoors because their homes were too hot.
Con Edison officials say the problem was caused by three feeder cables. One of the cables blew up during the afternoon on Roberts Avenue in Yonkers. Con Edison crews are working to repair the cables and restore full service to the affected areas.
