Thousands of people in the Bronx braved the heat Tuesday and lined up for blocks in hopes of getting a job.
More than 40 companies were at the Dreiser Community Center in Co-op City to hire for positions at the New Bay Plaza Mall, which is set to open at the end of the summer. There were 1,800 open positions, and more than 3,000 people pre-registered for the fair.
Macy's had the majority of open positions with 300 jobs available. Other retailers looking to hire at the fair were Michael Kors, Marshalls and Old Navy.
Positions were also available at eateries such as Applebee's and Red Lobster.
Those who could not attend the job fair will still be able to apply online.
The unemployment rate in the Bronx has gone down 1.9 percent over the past two years, from 12.5 percent to 10.6 percent.
