An Orange County veteran is searching for an irreplaceable American flag that was stolen from his yard this past weekend.
Army Maj. Walk Rittger served in Iraq, Afghanistan and Korea. Each time, he took an American flag with him. It became a symbol of his service and sacrifice.
Rittger and his wife Elke say that the flag was stolen overnight Sunday from their front yard on Florance Drive in Central Valley.
The couple, who have three children, say their bird feeder was stolen a few days before and feel the flag was taken as part of a teenage neighborhood prank or scavenger hunt.
The Rittgers have contacted Woodbury police, but say they don't want to press charges.
