Weather conditions are just nasty this morning till about nine or 10 a.m. Just, you know, if you have to head out, just be aware, it will be windy, it'll be rainy in some parts of the state, it'll be snowy. Uh, but I don't think they're going to see much of an issue there. I want to focus right now our attention on the coastal flood advisory that's in effect for Ocean County, in particular. Here's what happened overnight. We had a strong robust south wind push all that water up Barnegat Bay. It's now kind of pooling, especially along the northern areas. We're talking like Point Pleasant Bay head Manalo Ocean Gate, probably going to be dealing with some minor flooding for this morning. Now, the high tide cycle already passed right for the northern areas of Barnegat Bay, but the low tide is going to be just before noon today. So we have that water just kind of hanging out and this is because of the wind direction, right. The wind changed from a south wind that kept the water in the bay to now a more westerly north westerly component. And that's what's going to be the issue for the barrier islands. And that's what's going to spill over some of that water during this morning's high tide cycle, which is taking place right now. But additionally, aside from that, you know, it's windy today, we have gusts upwards of 30 MPH, coastal gusts and seaside heights could get up to 3035 MPH at a time this morning, especially around 10 a.m. when the rain pushes away and that rain of course, ending statewide between nine and 10 a.m. as well. So nuisance flooding definitely watching for that flooding right now in parts of the area, big puddles really that it's all nuisance, not life threatening right now, light snow is mixing in right now also north and west, an isolated accumulation here or there probably like Warren County, especially with a little bit of that burst that's coming through within the hour's time. Coastal conditions again, flooding along the Barnegat Bay. That's going to be one of the concerns for today as well. Statewide winds up to 25 to near 30 MPH with the exception of Ocean County, of course, a little stronger at the coast there. But honestly, the wind doesn't calm down until late tonight. Anyway, here's that satellite and radar picture with our future cast. We are expecting this honestly to just kind of slide away as we head into the late morning. We have a clear afternoon with temperatures in the forties. But then tonight we get down to 31 degrees. It'll be cold as we kind of realize, hey, it's still in December, you know, the warm air from yesterday now gone. And you'll see Tuesday's high, beautiful conditions, temperatures in the mid forties with a lot of sunshine and that's the same pattern that holds through Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week too. Back into the fifties. So this weekend with the next chance of rain, Sunday night.

All right. We're checking back in on today's storm watch. We want to get straight to storm watch team. Meteorologist Alan. No. All right, Alan. So as the rain is moving through this morning, what can we expect? Yeah, it's going to be a slow go on the area roadways this morning. We saw that with Ellie live in thunderbolt 12 just a few minutes ago. And that's because we've seen quite a bit of rain, almost two inches worth actually across parts of our borough that's causing. So some of those puddles, not luckily severe flooding. That's great news because it has fallen over about a 12 to four hour stretch instead of just in a couple of hours. So take a look at our highest amount in Morris Park. So this is what was taken right along Morris Park Avenue. We're seeing almost two inches of rain down towards Pelham Bay as well. University Heights at 1.8 inches, laguardia. So right across, of course, the river we're seeing about 1.7 inches. So we could expect some more uh, flight delays this morning. Keep that in mind if you're planning to head out or have loved ones coming in. Let's take a look at the future cast here as we head into the five o'clock hour, more of the same. We're going to continue to see the rain out there into the six and seven o'clock hours as the final push moves on through. Notice again, just north of, uh, of our borough, we're already seeing the drying happening. So at 730 it'll still be a steady rain. We're still seeing the green right on top of our borough, whether you're in North Bay Chester or towards co op City and City Island, City Island, you're going to see the rain for the longest because as the storm exits from west to east, we're going to continue to see again, a couple more showers and you'll be last to finally wrap up with the rain after about 9 a.m. Notice by 930 we're done with the rain still hanging on to some clouds. But by the time we get to lunch time, it's going to be sunny. Wouldn't also want to forget the sunglasses because for the afternoon, there will be that sun glare issue with lots of sunshine out there into the afternoon and evening, just a couple of passing clouds, but we are now dry into the evening hours into the overnight hours. Again, future cats, I'm telling you it's moving, but it's not showing anything because of course, we will be clearing things on out as for wind gust, they will be picking up throughout the morning. We're going to see them approaching 25 to 30 MPH. Luckily, we avoided the worst of the wind gusts. Those were literally about 10 miles away out towards Long Island. So very lucky in terms of that, but it will still be blustery and notice the wind direction north and west. That's a cold Canadian wind that's going to be bringing down that colder feel throughout the afternoon. So Pelham Gardens, that's a 24 mile per hour gust into the lake morning this morning, throgs neck 24 mile per hour. Gusts and into the afternoon again near 30 MPH slowly but surely dying down as we head towards the afternoon and evening hours, notice they're going to be heading down below 5 to 10 MPH. So much lighter wind into tomorrow morning, but it's going to feel like pretty, pretty cold because take a look at the 10 day forecast and what you're going to see is that the lows will get down to just below freezing at 31. Even that little bit of wind left over tomorrow morning, it will feel like the twenties. So you want to bundle up tomorrow morning, breeze will actually pick up again into the afternoon. So forties will feel like thirties and then the next several days beyond, then it's just cold even colder than last week because highs they're gonna struggle to reach 40 low temperatures will be in the low thirties. So definitely look out for that once we finally clear out of this rain later on this morning again, 9 a.m. you're gonna get the green light because the rain will be wrapping on out of here. All right.

Is needed. The Arbor Corps of Engineers says it's about to start a $100 million project to widen two flood prone rivers, fix bridges and fix retaining walls. So Matt, a lot of these communities are concerned because of what happened during the last storm. What's going on with this? Yes. So we still have a couple more hours about three hours or so of some light to moderate rain, at least at this point. So the fact that we're not seeing major flooding issues right now, great news as we go throughout mid morning because the conditions will improve over the next few hours. Actually, some good ability right now out towards the Hudson River and towards the Mario Cuomo bridge. Let's take a look at what the weather is doing right now where you are. So as we go throughout this morning, you can see all of the green on live top the radar that is still the rain. There are a few snow pelts mixed in in Orange County and Ulster County for sure. Temperatures are in the upper thirties to near forties still they'll start to drop as we go throughout the next couple of hours over towards North White Plains, seeing some moderate rain mount pleasant Phillips Manor. More of the same looking in Western Orange County like I showed you a few minutes ago. It's deer park getting some wet snow mixing in, but it's not sticking with those temperatures in the upper thirties to near 40 where that snow can stick on colder surfaces. Is in Hardenburg over towards Denning those higher elevations of northwestern Ulster County. That's where you could see a little bit of a light snow accumulation before this completely wraps up. So you can see on the eastern, the warmer side of the storm, all that rain. But on the colder side of the storm, you can see some of that snow and the back edge of this is starting to push into eastern Pennsylvania. Temperatures 44 in Yonkers, the coldest, they are middle and upper thirties even in those areas, getting some snow in northern Ulster County winds have subsided a bit for sure. The strongest winds still to our east over Connecticut parts of Long Island, but we're still getting some gusts to around 20 to 25 MPH. And even as the storm leaves, we will still have some gusty conditions behind it into the afternoon. So here is the storm watch feature cast from right now and through around 7730 this morning, the rain and any mixing going on is winding down and we'll break for sunshine after nine o'clock this morning. But it's going to be a cold feel outside all throughout the Hudson Valley afternoon. Temperatures lower to middle forties but winds can still gust in the 20 to 30 mile per hour range into the afternoon. So it will feel like the thirties dress warmly into the afternoon. If you could hold off traveling a few hours, it'll be much, much better by mid morning. The rest of the week, pretty quiet weather conditions with highs in the low forties through Thursday. Then a warm up Friday into the weekend before more rain moves in late on Sunday. All right now. Thank you.

Of course, you know, you have to drive slowly through this. They actually just opened the gates here. The park usually opens, you know, just before sunrise. But again, this is really the most we've seen but the rain is continuing. So we will keep you posted. I'm reporting live from Bay Park back to you in the studio Rich. All right, Cecilia. And it's turning colder. The gusty winds are coming in the wind chill right now where you are 35 degrees. So as the cold front passes Montauk, we're seeing the wet weather out here right now and then the colder temperatures. So it's kind of some sneaky flooding out there since it's still dark, the sides of the roads, you can't see all the puddles. We've had some flooded roads in the East Northport. We've had some flooding around the island this morning and you can see where Cecilia is in Oceanside. There's another batch of steadier rain starting to move in right now. We've seen a little bit of a lull over by poor Jeff the Corm to Central Islip. Now, we've had some steadier rain out towards Montauk this morning where some of the roads have been flooded and the big story will be some of the ponding out there. Give yourself extra travel time. Now that we're approaching, you know, the heart of rush hour, there's going to be a lot more cars out there. We have wet roads. Sunrise highway, the sun state the Meadow Brook heading towards a IE Minneola, wet weather conditions right now, Albertson Hicksville to Levittown the wine, wet weather conditions out here for this morning. Now, just to the west of Long Island, there's some steady downpours developing right now over Staten Island. This is the last of the quick, heavy downpours and then take a look at this. You see the blue color north of Morristown heading north into northern New Jersey and the Hudson Valley. There's some snow mixing in with some of that rainfall. Yeah, it's cold enough that they're seeing snow north and west. Now, for us, look at our temperatures now, 42 from Glen Cove to Hempstead. The Valley Stream 42 in Smithtown. 48 Montauk. These temperatures are down from yesterday. Fifties and sixties forties now winds around 15 to 30 MPH. Look at some of our wind chills right now. Hewlett at 3538 in Farmingdale. 35 ice up to 40 in West Hampton. It's going to be a cold afternoon and an improving weather conditions a little bit cold this morning at 41 in Patchogue, rainy and wet this afternoon here comes that sunshine, better weather conditions this afternoon, but with the wind feel colder. So when does the rain end between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Out over the east end? Weather is improving. Take a look at this at 345. There's your sunshine. Temperatures are in the forties but it's cold. Wind chills will be in the thirties this afternoon, rain tapers off after 8 a.m. noon, sunshine tomorrow morning, 30 cold tomorrow afternoon, sunshine and 44 dry weather throughout the work week after this morning and in fifties approaching the weekend, don't forget we want to see what's happening in your neighborhood. And I know nothing about this makeover subject. I have nothing to say John. Come in, please. I have short friends. They may take offense to that. Right. None intended but nothing is showed of rain as we work away and the wind it's gonna get worse. The wind is still gonna stick around throughout this morning. Um, the good news with the rain is it's starting to, to diminish and decrease. But again, with that wind, it's brought a lot of power outages specifically for Litchfield County spots across Newtown. Already seen over 200 power outages due to a storm that's really swept through with a lot of rain. A thunderstorm that pass through just a little bit after midnight earlier on this morning. So with that, we have a flood warning in effect for spots out across New Haven County. That's that lime green area, the darker forest green, that's the watch which sticks around throughout the rest of our morning, uh, into our afternoon. That flood watch looks like it's gonna expire by the time we head into around your 66 30 hour. Again, we're really starting to see that system move out east and thankfully, the worst of it is behind it, but still take it easy. We're still dealing with some steady bouts of rain this morning, some heavy rain this morning. But as we fast forward into the afternoon, we'll start to see that improvement. We really liking this rain to wrap up before the morning is done. And then we're gonna see, uh, a strong cold front bringing into some colder weather. We're quiet for the rest of this week, but again, it's gonna be a cold one and you're certainly gonna see that as we head into your tonight. So you just look at your 56 o'clock hour still dealing with some rain. Again, that strong cold front moves in. So notice different colors as you're looking up north and northwest, some pinks, some blues, a little bit of a mixing. We may see some flurries, we may see some snow showers and we could maybe even see about a coating to an inch thick for areas. Well, north, we're to cornwall on north, maybe spots out of crows ocean. Here's a look at your seven o'clock hour. We're starting to see that rain taper off by around 89 o'clock. I like for us to be dry. Then we could see some sun. By the time we head into this afternoon we're still gonna watch for some snow showers for areas up north and then again, a break in the clouds. Some sunshine for your afternoon. Numbers are gonna be in the lower to mid forties, then we're cold for tonight and we'll see that heading into your tomorrow. Looking at your extended forecast again. Once we get through this morning, we're looking at improvement as we dry out, but again, chillier.

The Real Deal: Throw an outdoor party without spending hundreds on decorations

All right. If you're throwing an outdoor party, don't spend hundreds on decorations. Our consumer reporter, Janice Lieberman has the real deal on how you can make your own. Your kids are screaming for a themed backyard party, but you don't have to pay a lot of money for a party planner. We have Lindsay Peers from the craft studio helping us out. You have the best ideas. What's our thing? Ok. Well, thanks for having me and we can create a little mermaid under the sea vibe for dollars. First of all your backdrop for your desserts, your whole party poster board, get your plates that you're going to serve for cake, they repurpose you peel them off when it's time layer them with double sided tape and when it's time for cake, you just peel it off and don't they look like mermaid scales. And this is our selfie wall toilet paper tubes, you wrap with construction paper and little fins and little seashell bras for a cute little flare. And look at, I made my own cake stand using cups in our pretty place by gluing them like a little pyramid. So fun and look at the shells my kids collected and painted and that's what we put in the top of our cupcakes. So you keep them busy doing the crafts and eating and having fun and playing games. Exactly. What's this? This is my little succulent that I've had for years. I scoop some sand from the beach. Used an old floral vase. Put the succulent in because it'll survive in sand for a little bit and put some more seashells we found. And this one I absolutely love. What did you do with these ice? They're beautiful. They're melting because it's hot, hot, hot. But that you put a leaf in a balloon, you skidded it in there, fill it up with water at the sink and then you pop it and then your ice is beautiful and melty and glistening and there's a leaf in there and you look so chic and sophisticated and it looks so expensive. I know. I know. Thanks for letting me craft with you. And when you're at the beach, have your kids collect the shells. It'll keep them busy and it'll be great for your next party.
