With so many holiday expenses, News 12 is looking into how shopping apps can help you save money.
Caleb Silver, editor in chief at Investopedia, says just doing the basics for that holiday meal will set you back between $90 and $100.
Silver breaks it down like this, "you are looking at spiral ham right now there is a good deal there, $28 for a 10 pound ham, and then of course a poinsettia for decorating inside and outside you are looking at around $27 to pretty the house up, eggnog coming in at $6 for the half gallon, you might need a couple of those and then potatoes, that is a staple for every holiday meal, around $4 right now for a 5 pound bag."
And that doesn't even factor in the dessert and the wine.
To help with the costs, News 12's Kristie Reeter shows you how a shopping app can work. She uses the Ibotta app which will run offers such as 25 cents back on soda, $6 back on certain bourbon, and 50 cents back on cookie mixes.
To use the app, you either shop through it online or scan your receipts after a trip to the store.
You then get cashback. Reeter has had the app for a few years and has made $430. Money that you can cash in for gift cards or deposit in your bank.
