The Manor, one of New Jersey’s oldest wedding and event venue is set to close July 5.
Owners of the West Orange business say the decision was prompted by a series of issues including inflation, the pandemic and a decrease in weddings.
“Once we realized this decision had to be made, we made it. We didn’t waste time in doing that,” said communications manager Keith Sly.
Couples and clients who had events scheduled after the July closing date have been contacted and refunds returned.
Workers say they understand that many brides and grooms are upset with the decision. Some couples are having to scramble to find a new venue in time for the big day.
Patricia Bobila and Sal Cordaro were among those impacted.
“We instantly fell in love with The Manor. We loved the aesthetic and room we picked,” said Bobila. “We found out about The Manor Wednesday afternoon, and that whole day we were calling new places.”
“I do really feel for them. All of the workers there are out of a job and need to find a new one,” said Cordaro.
Luckily for the couple, Il Tulipano in Cedar Grove had Sept. 15, 2023 available for their wedding.
There is currently no word on what will happen to the property after it closes.
