Suspect in Bronx killing of Westchester man dies in custody

Jimmy Avila, 44, was accused of killing his building's superintendent, 37-year-old Ryan Hines.

A man from New Rochelle was shot and killed last week in The Bronx, and the suspect charged in the case has died while in custody.
Jimmy Avila, 44, was accused of killing his building's superintendent, 37-year-old Ryan Hines. The Department of Corrections confirmed Avila died Saturday at the West Facility on Rikers Island.
His family and friends told News 12 that Avila took his own life. The investigation into his death is ongoing.
