Teens donate time to clean up Mamaroneck homes

Teenagers from at least six local high schools gave up their weekend to clean up flooded-out Mamaroneck homes with Habitat for Humanity.Recipients included Edilma Escobar, whose husband was forced to leave their home because the mold interfered with his dialysis. An 80-year-old woman who lives on Waverly Street is another flood victim.
While FEMA denied her aid, the agency said she qualified for a loan. "If [seniors] go in to borrow money [they're] going to say how are you going to repay us? Seniors only have social security. It's a very different situation," Mamaroneck Deputy Mayor Tony Fava says.
Meanwhile, the Little League and Cub Scouts are collecting canned goods for the Larchmont/Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force, which recently lost its entire stock of food in the flood.Related information:
