Teens who have faced adversity attended a summit that aims to keep them on the right track.
The Business Council of Westchester held the Westchester-Putnam Youth Summit at the Crowne Plaza in White Plains Wednesday, and News 12's Tara Rosenblum served as a facilitator to one team of teens.
Calling themselves "Team Higher," the teenage boys spoke about their career goals, which ranged from chef to lawyer to actor. Besides big goals, the teens shared something else in common: troubled pasts. They discussed charges involving burglary, drugs and assault.
Instead of spending time behind bars, the boys are getting a second chance through the Youth Shelter Program in Mount Vernon. The program immerses teens in educational opportunities like the summit.
At the summit, teams worked to assemble Legos into shapes and participated in other team-building activities.
While Team Higher didn't win the Legos activity, the boys walked away with faith in themselves and hope for their futures.
