A teenage boy was shot and killed early Saturday morning in Newburgh, police say.
Terence West, 16, was shot at around 1:30 a.m. outside the Lake Street Apartments, where the teen resided.
Childhood friend Alberto Rivera says he was by West's side during his final moments. He says he held West as he lie on the ground bleeding, applying pressure to the gunshot wounds.
According to Rivera, West did not know who shot him. He died at a local hospital hours later.
A makeshift memorial was set up at the site of the shooting, with the words "RIP Chief" on the burning candles.
Neighbors say the alleyway is nearly pitch black at night, and there are no surveillance cameras that could have captured what transpired.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
