A 16-year-old boy was struck and killed by a southbound Metro-North train Monday afternoon.

Sources tell News 12 that the train's engineer saw the teen leap from the platform. They say he tried to stop the train, but it was too late. Metro-North authorities tell News 12 that there was no foul play involved.
Sources also say a chaplain tried to offer comfort to the train's engineer, and that a girl was on her way to talk to the teen before he jumped.
News 12 has learned the victim was a student at Fordham Prep and lives nearby.
Authorities are not releasing the name of the young man until family members are notified. News 12 was told that his parents were on their way back from a trip out of the country.
