The search is on for a suspect who police say seriously injured a teenager during a stabbing in a residential Copiague neighborhood.

The violent altercation happened near the intersection of Pacific Street and 42nd Street around 3 p.m. yesterday. It's a residential neighborhood north of Sunrise Highway.

This morning, evidence of the alleged crime was evident from where police said it happened all the way across the street.

The male victim, 16, was taken to a hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, according to investigators.

Police have not released any information about who they're looking for, a motive or what may have led up to the incident.

Suffolk County police detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS, or the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
