After two days of deliberations, a jury found a New Rochelle teenager guilty Tuesday in the murder of a nightclub promoter.
Rodney Alston, 18, was found guilty of murder and possession of a weapon after he shot and killed 33-year-old night club promoter Dacheau Brown in front of Club Eclipse in New Rochelle in October 2005. The prosecution said Alston killed Brown because he was humiliated after Brown kicked him out of the club. Alston fled to Georgia and was arrested four months later.
The defense tried to convince the jury that Alston should have been convicted of manslaughter because he was too drunk to know what happened. The Westchester District Attorney?s office says that Alston?s actions fomented unrest between teens from New Rochelle and Mount Vernon and also triggered a retaliatory murder. Police say after Brown was shot, his brother Shamei went looking for revenge. Shamei Brown is charged with killing Raymond Harris. Shamei Brown was apparently looking for someone named Ray when Harris was killed, but Harris had nothing to do with the earlier shooting.
