As the calendar turns to April, people across the Hudson Valley can expect Spring weather, baseball and the tax deadline.
With April 18 being the deadline for filing IRS tax returns, News 12's financial correspondent Jordan Goodman joined News 12's Naveen Dhaliwal for some last-minute filing advice.
Goodman says the only step you can take now to affect your 2015 taxes is to open an IRA and make a deductible contribution. He also says people want to make sure to file both federal and state returns electronically. Make sure to claim all legitimate deductions such as mortgage interest, real estate taxes, unreimbursed business expenses, casualty losses and union dues.
The editor at moneyanswers.com also says that if you are getting a big refund, you should adjust your withholding and add exemptions so you take home more money in your paycheck and invest it for yourself.
