A task force made up of community members in New Rochelle will focus on safety in schools and around the community.
The 46-person taskforce led by Chairman Jonathan Brice, was motivated by the death of a high school student, Valerie Shwabb.
"Our focus is on coming up with recommendations so that we can provide to the board of education and the City Council ideas that they can consider for implementation,” said Brice.
Public meetings held by the task force will allow parents to be a part of the process.
Parents say they are happy that this task force exists.
“I thought it was a great idea for the schools to reach out to the community because people were very upset and people wanted to be involved more with the process,” says Lathell Smith, a parent at Davis Elementary School.
