Drivers using the Tappan Zee Bridge won't have to pay higher tolls to get across for at least another year.
A spokesperson for the New York State Thruway Authority said Monday that the $5 toll, which hasn't gone up since 2009, will remain in place for now. The $3.9 billion project to build the new bridge is well underway, but questions have always remained about how high tolls will go to pay for it.
Along with maintaining the $5 toll through 2015, it was also announced that the state's Environmental Facilities Corporation will loan up to $511 million to the project to be used to protect and improve the environment around the new bridge.
The bridge is still expected to be financed with tolls in the future.
