Columbus Elementary in Thornwood hosted "Take a Vet to School Day" on Thursday to provide an enriching history lesson for students.

The event, which took place ahead of Veterans Day, allowed children to interact with veterans, many of whom are their own family members.

Students gained insight into various wars, including the Vietnam War, Gulf War, and Iraq War, through personal narratives.

The day commenced with a breakfast session, offering an informal setting for students to ask questions.

Veterans then visited classrooms to share their military experiences and respond to inquiries about their service, including topics like food and the countries where they were stationed.
