The suspicious item that led to the brief evacuation of Westchester County Airport's baggage area turned out to be homemade spices.
TSA officials say a screener was X-raying luggage when he spotted something unusual. They put emergency procedures into effect and cleared the area around 1:30 p.m.
"It turned out to be cylindrical in shape. It has a screw cap on the end, and there was some other items in and around it in the luggage, including a set of ear buds so you saw some wires and something cylindrical," said Kieran O'Leary, of the Westchester County police.
The Westchester County Police Hazardous Devices Unit was called, and the drop-off and pickup lane just outside the airport doors was closed.
The airport remained open during the investigation.
The all-clear was given around 2:15 p.m.
