Suspected South American burglary ring busted in Mount Pleasant

Two men, Johan Matallana-Gomez, 29, and Jhonn Pulido Betancur, 46, were arrested for allegedly participating in a South American burglary ring targeting Indian and Chinese American households in New York and other states.

Authorities have dismantled an alleged international burglary ring operating in Mount Pleasant.
Two men, Johan Matallana-Gomez, 29, and Jhonn Pulido Betancur, 46, were arrested for allegedly participating in a South American burglary ring targeting Indian and Chinese American households in New York and other states.
On Nov. 1, police responded to a resident's call about breaking glass on Swanson Drive. Officers arrived swiftly, discovering a broken rear window. Matallana-Gomez fled, fracturing his ankle, and was apprehended. Pulido Betancur attempted escape by jumping from a second-floor deck but was tackled by officers.
Police are still searching for an accomplice who likely fled the scene in a vehicle.
A Wi-Fi jammer was found which is used to disable security cameras and Wi-Fi connections.
Both men face burglary charges, with Matallana-Gomez in custody at Westchester Medical Center and Betancur at Westchester County Jail.
