A well-dressed man suspected of stealing $90,000 from a White Plains auto shop was arrested today, according to police.
Police say Robert Berry, 55, stole the money from an unlocked safe at the USA Pro Auto Shop on Mamaroneck Avenue.
No one else was inside the store when the incident occurred.
White Plains police say surveillance video, which showed the suspect pacing inside the empty auto shop, helped lead to the arrest.
The owner says he had that much cash on hand because his gas supplier had been on vacation and he was just about to go to the bank to pay for four loads of gas.
The 54-year-old suspect was arrested in front of his Mount Vernon home early Wednesday morning.
Police say he has an extensive criminal record that includes robbery and burglary. They say he was out on parole.
