The Nyack Fresh Market opened in the village of Nyack two years ago, filling a void in the downtown area. The supermarket says business is struggling.
"We've been riding it out but unfortunately things aren't picking up," said owner Karina Zeor.
She says they researched why business wasn't growing, showing most customers use the business as a convenience store, buying a few items.
"The problem is actually not foot traffic. It's basket size. The transactions are not high. It's between like $20-$25 when in reality, in order for us to survive, we need to increase that at least to like $70-$80," says Zeor.
Nyack Fresh turned to the people it serves for input on how business can do better.
It says so far, almost 500 people have filled out this online survey and customers can still complete it. It also held a meeting on Tuesday night to hear from the public. Feedback shows people want more organic options and customer service, among other things.
Zeor says they learned a few other things, too.
"They're asking for senior discounts. Well, we have them. They're asking for free delivery. We have it already. So, it just comes out to like people just don't know the services that we provide and that we already offer. So we're going to be doing massive marketing campaigns
