Thursday was the inauguration for Milagros Pena, who now leads Purchase College.
She was a dean at University California Riverside before taking this job.
Pena is the daughter of Dominican immigrants, and the first in her family to graduate from college.
Pena takes over from Thomas Schwarz, who had been president since 2003.
