Suffolk County police believe the man accused of fatally stabbing his father at their Rocky Point home on Saturday, Nov. 9, crashed a car near the intersection of State Route 25A and the William Floyd Parkway minutes later as he fled from the scene.
Police believe Matthew Zoll, 23, was injured during the crash which has led police to focus on the wooded areas surrounding that intersection as part of the investigation that has now gone on for more than a week and a half.
“I heard that he was actually in Shoreham now so it my thought is that it is a little crazy," Shoreham resident Michael DeStefano said.
Investigators said they impounded the black GMC Yukon SUV for evidence.
On Nov. 9, police responded to 30 Quail Road in Rocky Point around 1:25 a.m. after a caller reported a stabbing. Police found Joseph Zoll, 61, seriously injured and transported him to Stony Brook University Hospital where he later died.
"The police were searching backyards," Shoreham resident Bill Suesser said. "So, everyone's been wondering you know, if they can find him. You figure the police could find a kid."
Anyone with information on Zoll’s location is asked to call 911, the Homicide Squad at 631-852- 6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
