A post office in Suffern will soon be renamed after a three-time Purple Heart recipient and a longtime veterans advocate in Rockland.

The U.S. Senate approved the name change for the post office at 15 Chestnut St. to be renamed after Sgt. Gerald Donnellan.
Rep. Mondaire Jones introduced the legislation last year, and they approved it in September.
Donnellan served in Vietnam. He also was the head of the county's Veterans Service Agency, where he started a veterans health clinic and raised awareness about the problems associated with post-traumatic stress disorder.
