A new study finds that residents who were arrested for marijuana offenses in Westchester County are disproportionately from the African-American and Latino communities.

Kathy Kaufman, of the Westchester Coalition for Police Reform, led the study along with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.

Kaufman and several advocacy groups gathered in White plains Thursday to address the racial disparity.

About 14 percent of the Westchester County population is black, and 26 percent is Latino.  The two groups account for 86 percent of the marijuana arrests since 2013.

The study says that when it comes to low-level marijuana possession arrests, White Plains has the most in the county followed by Mount Vernon and Yonkers.

News 12 reached out to several county police departments and PBA groups for their reaction to the study. Some had no comment, while others have not returned our calls.
