A new study finds that 13 of the highest paid educators outside New York City are located in the lower Hudson Valley.
The Empire Center for Public Policy study says that School Superintendent Louis Wool takes in over $323,000 a year in salary, not including benefits. Wool has been superintendent since 2002 and was New York state's "Superintendent of the Year" in 2010.
Superintendents in Rye Neck, Greenburgh, Carmel and South Orangetown rounded out the top five, with salaries well over $200,000.
The president of the Harrison Board of Education says she thinks Wool is worth the money.
Abby Mendelson issued a statement to News12 that read in part, "Public schools are increasingly more complicated, and Dr. Wool has the experience, expertise and passion to guide us...The learning culture of our schools is better than ever. If I could change his compensation, I wouldn't."
