A college student from Westchester is recovering at home after an unpleasant experience while spending the summer abroad.

Chelsea Rose of Larchmont says that she’s starting to feel healthy again after having food poisoning while abroad.

Rose is a rising Stony Brook University senior and was studying in Madrid for a six-week abroad program through Binghamton University.

While abroad, Rose and six other students battled a bacterial intestinal infection from what she claims was tainted and contaminated food served where she was staying.

She was severely sick for four days with a swollen abdomen and bloody urine. 

“I called my mom and I asked if I was going to die on the plane and make it home,” Rose says. “I felt so weak, so malnourished, had uncontrollable bouts of diarrhea and felt like I was not going to survive.”

A Binghamton University spokesperson released a statement saying the health and safety of students is a top priority and that the college is investigating.
