Rep. Lowey says these federal funds will cover operating expenses, including maintaining transit services, paying staff, and covering losses due to reduced operations.
With the spread of COVID-19, thousands of MTA employees are quarantined or calling out sick.
Ridership has also drastically fallen and is expected to continue falling in the coming weeks.
The MTA is once again asking the public to stay home and only use the transit system if they are making an urgent trip or are an essential worker.
