A vigil was held in West Nyack Monday night for the victims of the stabbing attack at a Hanukkah celebration in Monsey.
State and Rockland County officials hosted a Unity Rally with the shared purpose of bringing communities together and respecting difference.
A large crowd gathered at the Jewish Community Center of Rockland County to hear from local officials speaking out against recent acts of anti-Semitism.
U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said the Jewish community must be protected. "This afternoon I called for a quadruple funding to protect synagogues, schools and other houses of worship, to provide security guards, to allow them to install cameras and strong doors".
New York State Attorney General Letitia James says anyone who engages in any form of hate that results in the injury of an individual will "be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
James said her team will speak with social media companies to discuss what they can do to prevent pages from fueling the spread of hatred.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has also proposed a domestic terrorism law to build legal enforcement against these crimes. Since Dec. 8, there have been 13 anti-Semitic crimes across New York. Nine of them occurred just this week.
